The Amazing Race 29 Episode 9 Predictions and Editing Analysis

For the second time this season, we have two rounds airing back-to-back on the same night.

The good news: This was originally planned to air as two rounds back-to-back. Unlike three weeks ago when CBS changed their mind and aired the Dar es Salaam and Norway legs as two separate episodes with two separate intros and ‘Next Time on TAR’ segments. Therefore, we score an additional two minutes of running time tonight.

So who is going home and who looks like they will be taking home the title?

WEEK NINE WINNER’S EDIT PROJECTIONS (The following is the order of those who have the best chance of winning based on the edit set forth by production)

1) Brooke & Scott

Scott & Brooke’s edit has been improving in the eyes of the casual viewers. Brooke has been shown excelling at the past two Roadblocks. Scott & Brooke managed to use a U-Turn against Liz & Michael without being negatively portrayed for doing so in the process.

I am still waiting for Michael to confront Brooke at some point in the future.

MICHAEL: Why did you U-Turn me Brooke?

BROOKE: Well, you guys were–

MICHAEL: After everything I did for you!

(MICHAEL picks up BROOKE by the scruff of her neck and shakes her.)

MICHAEL: I TOLD YOU HOW TO MAKE THAT LADLE! YOU STILL WOULD HAVE BEEN THERE IF IT WEREN’T FOR ME! I POINTED OUT CLUE BOXES TO YOU WHEN WE WERE RUNNING TOGETHER! I GAVE YOU MY HANDBOOK ON HOW TO EXPERTLY BUTCHER AN ENDANGERED PANTHER! DURING THE FOURTH PIT STOP, I GAVE YOU MY LEFT KIDNEY WHEN YOU WERE EXPERIENCING KIDNEY TROUBLE! I EVEN DONATED BLOOD TO YOU BECAUSE WE HAD MATCHING BLOOD TYPES! I FLEW TO YOUR FRIEND’S HOUSE AND SAVED HER CAT FROM A BURNING BUILDING JUST BECAUSE YOU ASKED! AND THIS IS HOW YOU REPAY ME???!!!!!!!!

Everything continues to revolve around Brooke & Scott. This has been their season since day one, and that does not appear to be slowing down anytime soon.

2) Tara & Joey

29 tara joey

I have Brooke & Scott in a league of their own when it comes to the winner’s edit at the moment. Tara & Joey are the next tier down with Becca & Floyd right behind them.

I feel like the edit should make a bigger deal out of Tara & Joey not only winning three of the past six rounds, but also being on the podium for six consecutive rounds.

Tara & Joey being viewed as a team older than Methusaleh’s grandparents is kind of hilarious given what Tara & Joey’s real age is on paper, and also they are in better physical shape than most teams in a typical season.

Their other active storyline came to an end last round as they U-Turned Becca & Floyd in an attempt to protect Liz & Michael (or make it more competitive). It didn’t work. Hopefully the rivalry is renewed this week or we see a shift in the edit.

3) Becca & Floyd

29 fun

“Who wants to see Team Fun lose the race? No one!”

Sadly, we are at that point in the reality TV universe where editors will edit teams based upon the idea that they intend to invite them back to a future season. I hate that we are setting up contestants to be invited back for a second, third, or *gulp* fourth time.

TAR US has unofficially banned previous winners from playing again over the past decade.

I think Becca & Floyd’s edit would be a bit more well-rounded if they were to win this season.

4) Matt & Redman

Before I get into my Matt & Redman analysis, I would just like to say hello to Redman’s prosthetic legs that are painted black, white, red, brown, purple, and yellow.

No new storylines since last week. They will be going home before the Final Three. It will just be a matter of whether they will be eating humble pie this week or the next. . .or in Matt’s case, eating humble palates of pasta and dry spaghetti noodles.

5) London & Logan

After eight episodes of TAR, London & Logan may very well be matching Jeremy & Sandy’s pace of being the most invisible TAR team of all time.

Last week’s footage of London & Logan? Reversing a car, saying there is no drama, and Phil drooling over Logan’s muscles.

They haven’t had a story all season. It is sad. All of Phil’s dripping saliva in his body couldn’t save them.

Bilal & Sa’eed from TAR 10 have had more airtime than London & Logan this season. I don’t think that is even an exaggeration if you exclude London’s weaving blunder in the third episode.

LEG NINE PREDICTIONS (The following is the order I expect everyone to arrive at the next pit stop)

1) Matt & Redmond – 2.625 Team Average

That nasty infection in Red’s knee should not be enough to stop him. For now.

2) Becca & Floyd – 3.5 Team Average

They clearly have the most energy of any team left in the race. People seem to forget that they didn’t even bother to use their Express Pass.

3) Tara & Joey – 3.0 Team Average

I see Tara & Joey playing it safe in a round where everyone has probably whispered about it being the final NEL of the season.

4) Brooke & Scott – 5.125 Team Average

Their working relationship with London & Logan and other teams will be enough to keep them out of last place yet again. I assume Becca & Floyd will feel like they owe Brooke & Scott another favour this season.

5) London & Logan – 5.75 Team Average

Since leg four, London & Logan have only defeated any of the other four teams just twice.

In leg four, London & Logan barely beat Brooke & Scott in that three-way race to the mat.

In the last round, London & Logan beat Becca & Floyd due to the U-Turn and Becca & Floyd’s rare driving mishap.

In other words, things are not looking good.

LEG TEN PREDICTIONS (The following is the order I expect everyone to arrive at the next pit stop)

1) Tara & Joey

Tara & Joey need to win at least one leg in Vietnam. The older military/law enforcement team dominating in Vietnam is a trend that needs to continue. Teri & Ian ought to pass that torch.

2) Becca & Floyd

I’ll be honest. I expect Tara & Joey, Becca & Floyd, and Matt & Redman to be top three for both episodes tonight. These three teams are very level with one another.

3) Matt & Redmond

This is the part where I expect Matt & Redman to begin to falter, and then choke by the end of the penultimate round. I think they know the expectations for them to win will continue to grow, and I see them fumbling the ball in the last quarter.

4) Brooke & Scott

I can’t picture Brooke & Scott being eliminated before London & Logan. Can you?

5) London & Logan

I expect a Speed Bump as lame as London & Logan’s edit to be a mild contribution to eliminate them.

If London & Logan are in the penultimate round, the lols will ensue.

You really don’t think there was any negative portrayal of Brooke & Scott for using the U-turn? I might agree except for the fact that editors SPECIFICALLY pointed out the fact that Brooke had previously made a deal with Mike.

Between that and the negativity tossed at them by other teams this week, I would be shocked to see them win at this point.
