WEEK 7 EDITING ANALYSIS
1. FRANKIE & AMY
Frankie & Amy have a lot of active relationships with other teams.
Frankie & Amy are the catalysts for the whole pointless Express Pass dispute.
Frankie & Amy were at the centre of last week’s episode as a team who was nearly eliminated.
Frankie & Amy have been shown as a strong team in certain challenges.
Frankie & Amy currently have a winner’s edit, and it is strong.
2. JOEL & ASHLEY
Are they going to be the fan favourites who go home in the penultimate leg? There is a very good chance of that happening.
Joel & Ashley have been this season’s narrators of everything that goes on around them. Why, even they snuck into the Express Pass pointless drama.
It is tough to imagine Joel & Ashley not being the secondary candidate to win this season should Frankie & Amy somehow fail.
3. JULIE & LOWELL
“The barf bag is between your legs.”
Oh TAR Canada editors, never change.
We are starting to get a slight glimmer of meaningful content as Julie & Lowell’s edit tries to break away from the whole Bethany Hamilton Inspirational Minute.
I am curious to see how that plays out this week with a Double U-Turn involved. What if they use the Double U-Turn? Will the audience still support them as the innocent team to inspire all Canadians from sea to sea to sea?
4. STEPH & KRISTEN
I was refusing to say these words since day one, but Steph & Kristen have officially matched Natalie & Meaghan’s role. Teams voice their frustration with the whole Express Pass pointless subplot, and all of that implicates Steph & Kristen.
Forget Emmett & Jillian as the team as needed to be overthrown, that now belongs to Steph & Kristen.
It is awesome that Steph & Kristen’s personalities are drastically different from Natalie & Meaghan’s, but it does make my soul hurt that they are entering villain territory. Sigh.
5. RITA & YVETTE
Sadly, I do not think Rita & Yvette are accumulating enough content as we are now over halfway into the season. There has not been a single highlight all season involving Rita & Yvette. It has merely been little highlights sprinkled throughout.
6. EMMETT & JILLIAN
If the casual audience does not respect you, chances are you are not going to win the season. This is 2016. The viewer outrage would be incredible if Emmett & Jillian are victorious this season.
WEEK 7 PREDICTIONS (THE ORDER OF ARRIVAL AT THE PIT STOP)
1. STEPH & KRISTEN – 2.3333 AVERAGE
Ugh. THIS might be the Sudbury round we have all been “waiting” for. Another Canadian round in a vanilla city means we will not see much of a shift to the top of the leaderboard. That’s how TAR Canada works until international rounds makes things unpredictable.
Steph & Kristen and Emmett & Jillian have finished 1-2 on every Canadian leg except for one where Steph & Kristen ditched their lead to go for the Double Express Pass, and still got 6th anyway.
With an Express Pass in their pocket, this U-Turn will not impact Steph & Kristen whatsoever.
You can start filling in the blanks with the tasks they will have to complete on yet another Parliamentary themed leg, and Steph & Kristen will finish once again on top. Or Emmett & Jillian will. It’ll be close.
2. EMMETT & JILLIAN – 2.8333 AVERAGE
Emmett & Jillian cannot be happier to continue racing through Canada. Not as happy as Gino & Jesse were, but happy nonetheless.
No culture shock, no language barrier, and no adjustment in climate means Emmett & Jillian will keep their streak of being comfortable in the race. They might bicker a little, but whatever.
3. JOEL & ASHLEY – 4.0 AVERAGE
“If they don’t make this train, Joel & Ashley won’t arrive into Kingston, Jamai–er, Ontario until tomorrow!”
Yeah. I doubt this episode will have a team be over twelve hours behind from start to finish.
Furthermore, there will not be another BMO message from home where Great Aunt Sylvia will ramble on for over an hour before giving Joel & Ashley their next clue.
4. FRANKIE & AMY – 4.33333 AVERAGE
If you are going to U-Turn a team, it may as well be the lone team you know is guaranteed to not possess an Express Pass.
For whatever reason, Frankie & Amy do not appear to be at the top of their game at the moment. Will they be able to re-focus and climb back up in the standings? We shall see.
5. JULIE & LOWELL – 5.6666 AVERAGE
Two teams will presumably be U-Turned tonight. If you U-Turn the blind contestant, you are likely going to hell. I know the contestants are not completely in tune with how the casual fanbase thinks prior to competing on the race, but I have a feeling the meta game will come into play as everyone could forecast the reaction from the audience if they U-Turned Julie & Lowell.
Therefore, Julie & Lowell’s odds of surviving this elimination drastically improved.
6. RITA & YVETTE – 5.5 AVERAGE
Unfortunately for Rita & Yvette, if a second team is going to be U-Turned, it is tough to picture it not being Rita & Yvette–they are the perfect back-up option.
If somebody beats Steph & Kristen to the board, or if somebody else gets U-Turned, it is tough for a team to not be thinking “Who is likely behind us who will not make it a big deal that they were U-Turned? Rita & Yvette.”
Considering the past couple episodes have been “Why doesn’t anybody else feel threatened by us!” this would be the perfect comedic turn as an editor.
